Project Description
Design construction and operation of approximately 4,000 square feet of reed bed to compost over 150,000 gallons of wastewater treatment plant sludge for the Village of Tivoli . A grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) was obtained to pay for over 80% of the total project costs. The project allows the Village to manage their treatment plant sludge on site using an extremely low energy technology, ultimately producing, in the 10-15 year life span of the bed, an inert compost for use in Village landscaping projects. The beds have been in operation since August 2006.
Services Provided
A full suite of services was provided to the Village, from visioning sessions with the municipality, to grant procurement, to design, bidding and construction management. The reed beds were completed on schedule and on-budget. Additionally, assistance has been given to the Village to develop a community outreach program and develop a technology transfer component for NYSERDA. |
