Project Description
The project involved the construction of an over 6,000 s.f. unique 2-story residence with attached garage. The construction consists of steel moment frames for support of the 2nd floor composite deck and roof with light metal-framed walls. The garage is wood framed.
Services Provided
C&A provided structural and civil engineering services. Structural work involved the full design of the building from the foundation to the roof, developing structural plans & details, and performing construction inspection. Civil engineering services included development of the septic system. The unique architectural design of this residence involved many structural challenges. The 2nd floor cantilevers out significantly over the 1st floor walls on 3 sides of the building. In addition, the 1st floor walls were to be full curtain window walls. Thus, steel moment frames were designed to allow cantilevers from the center of the building to form the 2nd floor and roof diaphragms. Due to the large cantilevers and use of a lightweight concrete deck, numerous vibration and frequency analyses were performed to detect and prevent resonance of the structure. |
