Project Description
The project involved the construction of an over 800 s.f. boathouse with a 500 s.f. cantilevered deck connected to a covered dock. The construction consisted of pre-cast concrete plank flooring for the boathouse and deck with exposed timber roof framing.
Services Provided
C&A provided structural and civil engineering services. Structural work involved the full design of the building from the foundation to the roof, developing structural plans & details, and performing construction inspection. Civil engineering services included surveying and site planning to ensure proper location of the boathouse along the water's edge.
Numerous obstacles were overcome to complete this design. These included the foundation design due to the rock outcroppings on site and large horizontal ice loading from the pond. The pre-cast plank deck cantilevers 8' over the surface of the pond from the foundation wall. In addition, suspended wood walkways were designed for the covered dock to allow boat access. Hidden flitch plates and metal connections were used for the majority of the exposed timber framing to create an authentic architectural look.
